Thomas says she encountered further unwanted sexual contact from her second coach, Desmond Dickie, whom she met around late 1998 or early 1999.
Though Thomas never filed any complaints against him, Dickie had faced criminal allegations of sexual abuse in Canada, where he ran the national cycling team track programs. Although he was acquitted in 1996, the judge said he doubted Dickie’s innocence and that, had he been convicted, “a long term in prison would be well deserved,” according to media reports at the time.
