Q: and one more. Ross Tucker referred to the years 2002-2007 as the height of the doping era. Now, thats certainly not true if you look at historic performances of Marco Pantani, Bjarne Riis or Jan Ulrich from the 90ies, when there was no EPO Test and no HKT limit. Why not use these values as well for the dpVAM?
I’m sure that was a typo on Ross’ part as he has a good grasp on the history.
Making the claim that a GT winner is clean because they were not as fast as Pantani is sort of like saying a Porsche 911 is slow because it is not as fast as a Formula 1 car.
Now when looking at 2002-2007 there is still a wide stated consensus that it was impossible to be remotely competitive in GT’s without doping. But with the introduction of the Hct and EPO test and switch to EPO micro-dosing and transfusions it is a closer proxy to what may still be possible doping wise today.
